# Sub-Zero Refrigerator Parts and What the Warranty Covers

Sub-Zero refrigerator parts are ordered by model and serial number: filters and air cartridges you can fit, while gaskets, fans and boards need a technician.

---

Sub-Zero refrigerator parts split into two groups. Water filters and the air purification cartridge are owner parts: you order them by part number and swap them yourself in a few minutes. Door gaskets, fan motors, control boards and anything in the sealed system come through Sub-Zero's own parts distributors and are best fitted by a technician who has matched the part to your exact model and serial number. Before you order anything, find the rating plate and the installation date, because a unit still inside its first two years can have both the part and the labor covered.

## Start with the rating plate

Every Sub-Zero carries a rating plate printed with its model and serial number. The model names the product family; the serial pins down the build, and one model name can use different fans, boards and gaskets depending on when it was built. Quote both numbers whenever you ask for a part or a price.

Note two more details: the original installation date and the selling dealer's name. Sub-Zero asks for those along with the model and serial when an owner requests warranty service, and its online Product Registration is what switches the warranty on.

## Genuine versus aftermarket parts

Aftermarket parts are easy to find and usually cost less, but filters show the trade-off. Sub-Zero's Classic (CL) filter data sheet lists testing by NSF International against NSF/ANSI 42 and NSF/ANSI 53, and it names the conditions the cartridge is built for: 35-120 psi of supply pressure, water between 40°F-100°F and a 0.78 gpm service flow. A lookalike can thread into the housing without meeting any of that, and one that seats poorly may weep or let untreated water slip past.

Gaskets are a clearer case. Sub-Zero does not sell door or drawer gaskets online; they move only through the manufacturer's parts distributors, so a brand-name gasket on a marketplace page deserves a hard question about its origin. A seal slightly off in profile or magnet pull lets humid air creep in, and in a Northeast Florida kitchen that means a sweating door edge, frost and a compressor that hardly rests.

## Parts an owner can replace

The twist-in water filter 4204490, interchangeable with 9030868, fits Classic models (BI and CL), Designer DEC and DET models, and the 648PRO, PRO3650 and PRO4850. On Classic CL and Designer DET and DEC units it is rated for up to 750 gallons (2,839 L) or twelve months. Swap it when the indicator lights, when dispenser pressure falls off, when cubes come out hollow, or at 12 months, whichever comes first.

Older Classic (BI) units take either that one-prong 4204490 or a two-prong push-in cartridge. The two-prong microbiological filter 7023811 is discontinued, and its stand-in, 7045454, treats only color, taste and odor. If a BI runs bypassed with plug 7011209, or a twist-in cartridge has simply been removed, silence the filter icon by pressing the white reset button left of the filter five times within seven seconds.

Wine storage units (apart from the IW-30CI), the UC-24 undercounter, DEU undercounter refrigeration and ID drawer models have no internal water filter, and the DEU1550I ice maker does not ship with one, so skip the order for those.

The air purification cartridge, 7042798, directly replaces the older 7007067 and is the only air filter in models with that system. It lasts roughly a year and holds a mercury lamp, so dispose of it as local disposal laws require. If a brand-new water filter does not restore normal flow, the restriction is elsewhere in the line; see our [dispenser and filter service](/service/water-filter-and-dispenser-repair/).

## Parts that belong with a technician

A gasket that has split, torn or cracked needs replacing, and Sub-Zero's own advice is to hand door and drawer gasket work to a service technician. Fan motors, defrost heaters, sensors, control boards and the sealed system belong in the same category. Those repairs begin with testing, because a warm cabinet can trace back to a fan, a sensor or a board, and guessing buys parts nobody needed.

| Symptom | Likely part | What you can check | When to call |
|---|---|---|---|
| Slow dispenser, hollow cubes | Spent water filter | Filter age and indicator | A fresh filter changes nothing |
| Sweating door edge | Torn or flattened gasket | Visible splits | The gasket is damaged |
| Compressor runs, nothing cold | Sealed system | Installation date | Right away |

Typical ranges run $250–$590 for a door gasket or seal, $260–$570 for an evaporator or condenser fan motor, $420–$780 for an electronic control board and $910–$2,270 for compressor or sealed-system work. The firm figure comes after the $80 diagnostic, once the failed part and its number are confirmed. Genuine parts are not always on the shelf; our note on [parts lead times](/villages/greenleaf-village/) explains the wait.

## What the warranty covers

Sub-Zero's Residential Limited Warranty runs from the original installation date, not the purchase date. For the first two years it is a full warranty: any part defective in materials or workmanship is repaired or replaced, parts and labor included.

The sealed system gets longer protection. For five years from installation, under normal residential use, a defective compressor, condenser, evaporator, drier or connecting tubing is covered in full. After that, a limited twelve-year sealed system warranty still has Sub-Zero repair or replace those components, but the owner pays every other cost, labor included. If the compressor hums and nothing gets cold, read our [sealed system page](/service/sealed-system-repair/) and check your dates first.

Cosmetic defects on stainless doors, panels, handles, frames and interior surfaces carry only a limited 60-day parts and labor warranty, so inspect the finish soon after installation. Replacement water filters and air purification cartridges are not covered. Units approved for outdoor use by model and serial number fall under a separate Outdoor Limited Warranty: a full one year on all parts and labor plus a full five-year sealed system warranty.

A claim rests on a known installation date, a registered product, the model and serial number, and a true defect rather than damage. We are an independent shop, not part of Sub-Zero's own service network, so while your refrigerator sits inside full coverage, contact Sub-Zero first.

## What does the repair this guide describes cost in Nocatee?

Flat $80 diagnostic covering the visit and the full diagnostic sequence, credited toward the repair once you approve the work.

Completed work of the kind this page covers has landed between $250 and $590, parts and labor together. The firm figure is written down after the diagnosis, not before it.

| Repair | Typical range |
| --- | --- |
| Diagnostic visit, credited toward the repair | $80 |
| Door gasket or seal replacement | $250–$590 |

Ranges are what this work has cost, not a quote. A range moves with the part version the serial number calls for and with what the cabinet turns out to need.
